I have a 1979 349 Montesa Cota that I am going to get the engine rebuilt and as there are no workshop manuals for these can you guys tell me things like piston clearence, cylinder head tensions, casing bolt tensions, and anything else that you know about like Firing position, point gap, well i'll leave it to you guys keep the info coming as I am sure others will use it as well.

10 posts Posted October 23, 2018 Hello all, I have found my dads Montesa Cota 349 1980 in his garage. The bike itself appears in (relatively) good condition. I don't think it has been ridden (or started) for 20+ years. I would like to get this bike running again & start riding it at local events.

Recommended oils for the 349 are as follows: Gearbox - 300 cc -, SAE 90. Clutch - 300 cc - 10W-30 (I use Maxima MTL-XL 75W transmission oil for the clutches in both my modern and vintage bikes) Front forks - 210 cc per leg, 10W fork oil (any decent brand) Gas / oil - Montesa manuals recommended a 4% mixture, but with todays synthetic oils 50:1.

As my son and I are in the midst of restoring a 349 we are about to begin rebuilding the engine as it was seized and already partially taken apart. This guide seems ok but! any other tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
